The question

What is the ruling on one who abandons prayer out of laziness, not out of denial, and is he considered a disbeliever and required to utter the Two Testimonies? And what is the ruling on making up the days of Ramadan that he intentionally broke his fast by masturbating, while he fasted days in which he did not pray?

The answer

One must repent to Allah Almighty for neglecting prayers and maintain them in the future. Prayer is the second pillar of Islam and the first thing a servant will be questioned about. Abandoning prayer or being negligent about it is a grave sin, and Allah has threatened those who abandon it with punishment, as He Almighty said: {There succeeded them a generation who neglected prayers and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil} and His saying: {So woe to those who pray, [but] who are heedless of their prayer}.

One who prays sometimes and abandons sometimes is not considered an infidel. He must make up all missed prayers. If he does not know their number, he must continue making them up until he is reasonably certain that his duty is discharged, provided that making them up does not cause harm to his body or livelihood.

Fasting is valid on the days the Muslim fasted and did not pray.

As for masturbation, it is forbidden. During the daytime in , it is even more sinful. One must make up the days on which semen was ejaculated because of it. If he does not remember the number of days, he must make them up until he is reasonably certain that his duty is discharged. If semen was not ejaculated, the fast is valid, but the person is sinful. Delaying making up due to ignorance or forgetfulness does not require expiation.
