If "preparing spirits" means invoking jinn and others, then it is not permissible, because it can only be done through polytheistic means. However, if it means nourishing the soul with faith in Allah, His messengers, His angels, His books, the Last Day, and divine decree—both its good and its evil—then it is a legitimate pursuit that every Muslim should strive for.
