Do these poetic verses, said in praise of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, which include, "No, by Him who made hearts flutter, my master, were it not for you, I would not have been a lover," and "So seek for me your side as a resting place in my soul, for I deem you the fitting abode," constitute shirk, especially with regard to Sufism, or are they permissible?

We have previously cautioned that exaggeration in praising the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, leads to polytheism (shirk (definition)), and it is imperative to beware of falling into it. These verses are among what has been said in praise of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, and there appears to be nothing in them that contradicts creed, as what they contain is open to interpretation. Nevertheless, it is preferable to avoid such unqualified statements and attributing actions to the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, after his death.
