What is the ruling on hanging plaques inscribed with Quranic verses or the Beautiful Names of Allah on the walls of homes?

Hanging plaques and banners that contain Quranic verses in homes and public places is prohibited because it distorts the Quran from its fundamental purpose, which is guidance and recitation. It is considered an innovation (bid'ah) for seeking blessings and contravenes the Sunnah (definition) of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Moreover, it may be a means to shirk (definition) (polytheism) through the belief that these protect from evils. It also involves using the Quran for commercial promotion, extravagance, tampering with verses by distorting them or writing them on images of animate beings, and exposing them to disrespect. Some might use them to alleviate the blame of their consciences without real action. Reality proves that these plaques do not remind people of the Quran.
