What is the wisdom behind legislating Zakat in Islam?

Zakat (definition) is one of the pillars of Islam. It demonstrates the sincerity of the giver's faith, purifies their character, expands their heart, and elevates them to the status of a complete believer. It is also a means of entering Paradise, makes the Muslim community one family, appeases the indignation of the poor, and prevents financial crimes. Furthermore, it is a cause for salvation from the heat of the Day of Judgment, compels a person to know the limits set by Allah, purifies and increases wealth, is a reason for the descent of blessings, extinguishes the Lord's wrath, repels an evil death, helps in dealing with afflictions, and expiates sins.
