What is Your Eminence's opinion on accusing the youth of the Sahwa (Islamic Awakening) of extremism and fundamentalism?

Extremism is an accusation leveled by the enemies of Islam—Jews, Christians, communists, and others—to tarnish the call to Allah, which is the call of the prophets and messengers. As for the term "fundamentalism," if it refers to adherence to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah (definition) of His Prophet, then it is a praise and not a denouncement. The true denouncement, however, is for extremism (ghuluw) or negligence (jafa'), meaning extremism by excess or deficiency. Preachers and scholars must adhere to the legitimate Islamic principles, commit to truth and moderation, balancing between excess and negligence, and staying away from innovations and ignorance.
