Does what was stated in the deleted Creed section of "Matn Ibn Ashir" contradict the creed of those who claim affiliation with Salafism, and did they commit an error by deleting it for which they must apologize to the Ash'aris?
We agree with the questioner on the necessity of adhering to academic integrity. However, printing a part of a book does not violate it, unless it creates the illusion that this is the complete book. The mentioned verses are in the Ash'ari tradition, and the problem is not in their affirmation of God's attributes, but rather in their negation of other attributes. For the Ash'aris, the unity of the Essence means negating some of God's established attributes, because they understand it to imply composition. The Ash'aris have relied on the specious arguments of composition and anthropomorphism in negating some of the attributive descriptions, even though affirming a face, eyes, and two hands for Allah Almighty does not necessitate composition.
