The commanded unity and accord and forbade division and discord. There is praiseworthy and blameworthy disagreement. Some matters of disagreement between groups are of the praiseworthy type, yet some may deem them blameworthy and base loyalty and disavowal upon them, which disperses the Ummah. There should be no disagreement regarding the fixed tenets of the religion, and anyone who incites disagreement concerning them must be denounced. The way to achieve unity and eliminate discord is to return to the Qur’an and according to the understanding of the righteous predecessors.
