The answer

If the heirs are limited to the wife and children, the inheritance is divided as follows:

The wife receives one-eighth due to the presence of a lineal descendant, as Allah Almighty says: "But if you have a child, then for them [the wives] is one eighth of what you leave" (An-Nisa: 12).

What remains after the wife's share is for the children by virtue of ta'sib (residuary heirship), with the male receiving the share of two females, as Allah Almighty says: "Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females" (An-Nisa: 11).

The inheritance is divided into eight shares: one share for the wife, two shares for the son, and one share for each daughter.
