The question

Is a Muslim woman who has three sons, the last of whom was born with a physical disability, permitted to be content with what Allah has bestowed upon her, out of fear of giving birth to a child with a worse condition, or should she marry another and bear children, knowing that food contamination affects fertility?

The answer

If the spouses agree not to have children, there is no sin in that, provided that the method of preventing conception is not permanent. If the wife desires to have children, the husband is not permitted to prevent her unless there is an excuse, and the mere fear of the husband that a child might be born with a physical defect is not considered an excuse. However, if the husband is certain, through specialists, that having a child with a physical defect is a reality, some contemporary scholars have permitted refraining from procreation in such a case. If the husband is able to marry another woman, there is no sin upon him, provided that he observes justice.
