The answer

Parents should be kind and affectionate towards their children; for mercy towards children is both innate and divinely legislated, while violence against them contradicts both nature and divine law. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade harshness of heart towards children, saying: "Whoever does not show mercy will not be shown mercy," and his saying: "Do I have power over you, if Allah has removed mercy from your heart?" Moreover, a child's crying is not without reason, and its cause should be identified, not met with beating. Violence against children leads to psychological and social problems, as well as physical and mental disabilities. Parents must pray for their children and take care of them.
