It is permissible to perform the ' for a newborn by slaughtering a cow or a camel, provided it has reached the age suitable for (sacrificial animal). A cow or a camel suffices for seven shares according to the Shafi'i school of thought. Therefore, two or three individuals may share in a cow or a camel for the 'aqiqah of two or three newborns.
