Aqiqah is a sacrifice offered to celebrate a newborn child. Tradition calls for two animals for a boy and one for a girl, with the meat distributed and shared. It is usually performed on the seventh day after birth, and differs from udhiyah, the Eid al-Adha sacrifice.
