Is scattering salt and the custom of the "Subuʿ" generally forbidden or merely disliked (makruh)?

The Sebou’ (seventh-day celebration) is an innovation that has no basis [in Islamic tradition]. It contains objectionable practices that are impermissible, such as beating the mortar and sprinkling salt, believing that this benefits the newborn and wards off the evil eye. It is also a waste and squandering of money, and it could be polytheism (shirk (definition)) if done to seek closeness to the jinn. These customs should be replaced with the Aqiqah (definition), which is a prophetic Sunnah (definition), as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Every child is mortgaged by his Aqiqah, which should be slaughtered on his seventh day."
