The answer

It is when naming a newborn that the name be good. The best names are Abdullah and Abdul Rahman. It is inferred from the hadiths that it is desirable to name with names that have good meanings, such as the names of prophets and companions. It is not appropriate to name with names that imply self-aggrandizement. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade naming a boy "Yasar," "Rabah," "Najiḥ," or "Aflaḥ." Based on this, there is no harm in naming a girl "Lamar" or "Mayar," as long as they do not imply servitude to other than Allah, or a bad meaning, or are names of people known for disbelief or disobedience.
