The answer

A wife must obey her husband regarding wearing modest clothing and not applying makeup in front of non- men. A husband is not permitted to allow her to go out displaying her adornments. A woman's going out is permissible on condition that she does not adorn herself and changes her appearance in a way that does not attract men's gazes. It is not permissible, Islamically, for a woman to adorn herself for non-mahram men, whether the makeup is light or heavy. If a wife requests divorce because her husband orders her to be modest and abandon adornment when going out, she has no right to do so. A severe warning has been issued against those who seek divorce without a valid reason. The husband is advised to be patient with his wife, to seek her rectification with wisdom and gentleness, to teach her matters of her religion, and to explain the harms of divorce without a valid reason.
