Is it permissible to use pumice stone, loofah, and sponges as skin exfoliants during bathing, and is it permissible to use skin cleansing products that remove dead cells without exfoliation?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
Using skin cleansers and exfoliants that remove dead cells without peeling is permissible. As for peeling agents, if they are solely for beautification, they are prohibited by analogy with plucking eyebrows (al-Nams) and similar practices. However, if they are for removing a defect or for treatment, such as removing melasma or scars, then there is no harm in using them.
