The awrah must be preserved and covered from sight or exposure except for the wife or what one's right hand possesses. This is comprehensive for all awrah, and it must be covered from the eyes of people. In the case of being in seclusion, there is a difference of opinion regarding the obligation of covering, and the preponderant opinion is that it is obligatory to cover the awrah even when in seclusion.
