Tabarruj (wanton display) is for a woman to show her adornments and beauty to men, such as revealing what is supposed to be covered. There is disagreement regarding the precise definition of "the first Jahiliyyah" (pre-Islamic era of ignorance). Some say it was the time when Abraham (peace be upon him) was born. Others say it was the period between Adam and Noah, or Noah and Idris, or Noah and Abraham, or Moses and Jesus, or Jesus and Muhammad, or the time of David and Solomon. In the era of the ignorant Jahiliyyah, women would display what was shameful to show, and they would walk among men without hijab (definition), which is precisely what Islamic law commanded to abandon.
