What should a girl do who wishes to wear the jilbab, which she sees as a protection for her, while her mother refuses that and insists on her wearing "fashionably modest" clothes, despite her knowledge that "there is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator"?

The mother does not have the right to prevent her daughter from wearing the , because it is an obligation upon every adult Muslim woman, as stated in the Holy Quran: "O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments." Therefore, it is not permissible to obey the mother in this act of disobedience, for "there is no obedience to a creature in defiance of the Creator." The hijab must be worn immediately, with patience, and the matter should be explained to the mother gently and wisely.
