Is it permissible to live in a palace?

Originally, it is permissible to reside in palaces. However, it becomes blameworthy if done for boastfulness and ostentation, due to the : "They will compete in constructing tall buildings," and his (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "The Hour will not be established until people compete in constructing tall buildings."
