The answer

If the figures are of animate beings (those with souls), then they are forbidden images, and what is forbidden to make is forbidden to sell. However, if the images are among those that are permissible, such as images of inanimate objects, or incomplete or indistinct images, then earning from them is permissible, provided that the work is free from other prohibitions like forbidden musical instruments and the promotion of vices. As for the money previously earned from this work, if the questioner was unaware of its impermissibility, then he may spend it on himself or his family, or give it as charity.
