Is it permissible to interrupt the prayer to silence a ringing mobile phone if its ringing is prolonged, for fear of disturbing the worshipers and disrupting the congregation, especially if its ringtone is music or singing?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
It is not permissible to interrupt a fard (obligatory) prayer except for a legitimate Shar'i (Islamic legal) excuse, such as killing a snake, fearing the loss of property, or assisting someone in distress. Therefore, it is not permissible to interrupt the prayer to turn off a mobile phone, as its ringing can be silenced with a slight movement that does not invalidate the prayer. Phone owners should turn off their phones before entering the mosque to avoid disturbing worshippers and to prevent forbidden musical tones.
