What is the ruling on working as a teaching assistant at the Higher Institute of Music and as a violin player in studios for one who seeks lawful earnings and avoids nightclubs and playing music for women?
Seeking what is lawful () is a religious obligation and a sign of a Muslim's eagerness to please Allah. "And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect." Listening to musical instruments and music, and working in such fields, is forbidden, and its earnings are unlawful. Jurists have rejected the testimony of male and female singers and musicians, considering it an act of moral transgression (fisq), just as they considered instruments of amusement and entertainment to be instruments of disobedience. Therefore, it is advisable to seek another lawful (halal) occupation, strive in supplication (dua), and rely upon Allah.
