What is the ruling on composing a supplication that includes remembrance (dhikr) and requests to Allah Almighty?

The basic principle of supplication (du'a') is that a Muslim should ask for his needs. It is preferable to supplicate with the prescribed prayers from the Qur'an and Sunnah (definition), choosing what is appropriate for the situation. There is no objection to combining a personal supplication with a prescribed one, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Then let him choose whatever supplication he likes and supplicate with it." The Prophet also encouraged frequent supplication during prostration (sujud (definition)), saying: "The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so increase your supplication." The matter is broad, as long as one does not supplicate for a sin or the severance of kinship ties.
