The question

What is the Sharia ruling on the idea of printing the supplication for entering the marketplace and hanging it in mosques and marketplaces, and has there been an explanation for this supplication: "Whoever enters the marketplace and says: 'There is no god but Allah, He is One, without partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and all praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is the Ever-Living who does not die. In His hand is all good, and He is over all things competent'"?

The answer

The idea of printing the supplication for entering the marketplace (du'a al-suq) and displaying it in places where people gather should be implemented, as it contributes to spreading good. The narrated concerning the market supplication is (good) and (authentic), and it contains immense virtue. The explanation mentioned for it is correct: "a thousand thousand good deeds" is equivalent to one million good deeds, and similarly for bad deeds. It is permissible to enter the market solely for the purpose of reciting this supplication and then returning, as Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) did so to greet people. One who enters the market should intend to recite this supplication, greet people, inquire about their well-being, encourage them to do good, and forbid evil.
