The question

How can a Christian woman, who finds herself in a neutral position between Christianity and Islam, and feels anxious because she lacks a sense of tranquility and a complete desire to embrace Islam, attain this tranquility and avoid marrying solely for the sake of being associated with a Muslim man, and instead wishes to submit to God purely? And is it permissible for her, after embracing Islam, to meet her non-Muslim relatives, celebrate their special days with them, and exchange gifts with them on their holidays, such as Christmas?

The answer

Hesitation in embracing Islam is from the whisperings of Satan. It does not diminish a woman to convert to Islam because of a man, as happened with Umm Sulaym, whose dowry was Islam. Islam will not prevent her from maintaining ties with her non-Muslim family; rather, it enjoins good treatment of them. It is permissible to visit them and invite them to Islam, and to exchange gifts with them, provided it is not on the occasion of their religious festivals, and avoiding unlawful mixing.
