What should a person do who has been falsely accused of sodomy, and the accused has informed everyone of this accusation?

It is not permissible to accuse a Muslim of indecency without evidence; this is one of the major sins concerning which the Sacred Law has been very strict, decreeing flogging, فسق (moral corruption), and rejection of testimony for the accuser. Allah the Almighty says: "And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept any testimony from them ever again. And those are the defiantly disobedient." One should advise whoever accuses you, and you may refer the matter to the Sharia (definition) judge for the imposition of the Hadd (prescribed punishment) for slander if you have evidence, or you may pardon him, which is preferable if he repents and reforms.
