The answer

The first misconception: "The sheikhs are arrogant." This is an accusation against the scholars whom Allah has specifically chosen to preserve His religion, and it is obligatory to revere them. Accusing scholars of backbiting is among the major sins. If something appears to emanate from them, then what is obligatory is to offer advice and to be patient in learning knowledge from them.

The second misconception: "They take money." The majority of jurists have permitted taking a fee for teaching the Quran, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, the most deserving thing for which you take a wage is the Book of Allah." Similarly, it is permissible to take compensation for teaching the Quran, for teaching, for delivering sermons, and for judging, which are all public interests that people need.
