Ibn Majah narrated with an authentic chain from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) offered the funeral prayer for a deceased person, then he came to the grave of the deceased and threw three handfuls of earth upon it, starting from the head-end."
