Is a patient's refusal to have a cardiac resuscitation device implanted, and their surrender to the illness as an act of God's will, considered suicide in Islam? And is one sinful if they use contraceptives out of concern for their offspring?

A sick person is permitted to refuse the installation of a cardiac resuscitation device, and by doing so, they are not considered suicidal. This is because treatment is not obligatory according to the majority of scholars. Treatment with permissible, Sharia (definition)-compliant medications is recommended, but there is no sin upon one who chooses not to take them. Similarly, it is permissible to use contraception when there is a need, such as the husband's illness or his weakness in caring for his children, provided the wife consents. However, it is not permissible to use contraception out of fear of poverty.
