The answer

Mourning for the deceased is not permissible for more than three nights, except for a wife whose husband has died; she mourns for four months and ten days. Changing one's behavior to reflect on death or abandoning extravagance in adornment and ostentation is permissible, so long as it is not done in the manner of mourning. A woman must avoid anything that might be understood as mourning, and she should adorn herself with what is Islamically permissible, following the example of Umm Habiba, may Allah be pleased with her.
