The answer

The waiting period () for a non-pregnant widow is four months and ten days, while for a pregnant woman, it is until she gives birth. It is not permissible for the woman in her waiting period to leave her home until the iddah ends. There is no need to deprive the grandmother of her grandchildren; some of them can be given to her during the waiting period. If the woman in her waiting period lives with her mother-in-law after the iddah, she must be cautious about being alone with the mother-in-law's sons, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "No man is alone with a woman except if she has a with her," and his saying: "Beware of entering upon women."
