How do I reconcile honoring my parents with preserving my prayer, which my father, with whom I sometimes argue due to my medical condition, spoils?

If a father tries to prevent his son from performing the obligatory prayer (Salat al-Fard), then he should not be obeyed, as "there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator." However, when it comes to supererogatory prayers (Salat al-Nawafil), showing filial piety to parents takes precedence. The son must endure his father's harshness and continue to be dutiful towards him, for his right to filial piety is not forfeited, and abandoning one's parents is impermissible. One should consider showing filial piety to one's parent as a path to the Hereafter and to Allah's pleasure, for parents are "your Paradise and your Hellfire." It is recommended to perform Ruqyah (definition) Sharia (definition) (Islamic exorcism/healing) and to strive to manage anger.
