The answer

What a person is commanded to do, namely, to inform his family of his death, is a clear lie, and it is one of the major sins that lead to Hellfire, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Hellfire." This lie entails legal rulings such as ' (waiting period), marriage, inheritance, and debt repayment, in addition to the grief and distress it causes his family. Therefore, this act is reprehensible and it is not permissible to do it or assist in it.
