The answer

The believer should utilize the month of for various acts of worship; for Ramadan is the month of fasting, night prayers (), recitation of the Qur’an, remembrance of Allah (Dhikr), supplication (Du’a), , charity (), generosity, and i’tikaf (spiritual retreat). In it, necks are freed from the Fire, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, the devils are chained, and the means of forgiveness for sins multiply. The deprived one is he who is deprived of the good of this month, and the loser is he for whom Ramadan has passed and he has not been forgiven.

The Muslim should not waste his time in amusement and play, especially in Ramadan, for life is time, and "Every person goes out in the morning and sells himself, either freeing himself or bringing about his ruin." So, whoever wastes Ramadan in other than obedience to Allah will regret it when regret is of no avail. The goal of fasting is to achieve piety (), by acting in obedience to Allah and refraining from what He has forbidden.
