Is intercourse after Fajr a Sunnah from the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, or is it merely recommended, especially on Friday?

Some scholars are of the opinion that it is desirable to have intercourse with one's wife on Friday morning, citing the hadith (definition) of Aws ibn Aws from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Several interpretations have been given for the meaning of "ghusl (definition)" (washing) in this context, including: sexual intercourse, washing limbs three times during ablution, and washing clothes and the head. There is also a narration with a lighter interpretation of the word, encompassing sexual intercourse, or washing the head and clothes, or ablution. Some jurists mentioned "asal" (honey) meaning intercourse, but this is a distortion. The preferred view according to Al-Bayhaqi and others is that the meaning is washing the head, and this is supported by a narration from Abu Dawud: "Whoever washes his head on Friday and performs ghusl." It can be summarized from what has been mentioned that the desirability of having intercourse with one's wife on Friday morning is a matter of scholarly disagreement.
