Is a man's reward doubled if he has intercourse with his wife on Friday night?

There is no textual evidence (daleel shar'i) proving the desirability of a husband having intercourse with his wife on Friday night, or that there is a double reward for it. Some scholars have held the view that it is desirable to have intercourse with one's wife on Friday, basing their argument on the hadith: "Whoever takes a ghusl on Friday similar to the ghusl for Janabah (major ritual impurity)...", interpreting "ghusl for Janabah" as a ghusl necessitated by sexual intercourse. However, Al-Nawawi and Ibn Hajar weakened this opinion, and the more probable meaning is that the ghusl is similar in description to the ghusl of Janabah. They also cited the hadith: "Whoever performs ghusl (washed) and takes ghusl (washed himself)...", interpreting "ghassala" (washed) as referring to marital relations. However, the more probable meaning of "ghassala" is washing the head, or washing clothes, or performing ablution (wudu'). Therefore, the preponderant view is that the ahadith about ghusl on Friday relate to preparing for prayer by taking a bath and perfuming oneself, and have no connection to the desirability of sexual intercourse.
