The answer

The regulations for online currency trading must be observed. If the money you are trading reaches the nisab (minimum threshold), even by combining it with other cash or assets, and one full Hijri year passes while it remains above the nisab, then zakat becomes obligatory on it. Zakat is calculated by paying one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) of the money you possess and the profit generated from it. The presence of profit or loss does not affect its obligation as long as the conditions for zakat are met.
