Why did Islam limit polygyny to four women only, and not to three or more?
A Muslim must submit to Allah's divine rulings, whether they comprehend the wisdom behind them or not, because Allah Almighty legislates only with profound wisdom. Polygyny is an innate matter, and divine legislation is inherently wise; it does not depend on the individual's understanding of the wisdom therein. Opening the door to debate on these questions may lead to doubt in the Sharia and its rulings. What is required of a believer is to listen and obey Allah's commands and prohibitions. Allah Almighty says: "But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves, and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full] submission."
