What is the ruling on drinking saffron water on which Quranic verses have been written on a plate or paper?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is no harm in writing Quranic verses with saffron or rosewater in a vessel or on paper for drinking the water or applying it to a painful area, based on what has been reported from the Salaf (early Muslims) regarding its permissibility. Ibn Al-Qayyim mentioned that a group of the Salaf permitted writing verses and drinking them for the sick, and Mujahid, Abu Qilabah, and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) did so. The fatwas of the Permanent Committee, Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim, and Sheikh Ibn Baz have permitted this, provided that the one performing the act is among the people of goodness and uprightness.
