A sign of Allah's love for His servant is His granting them success in obedience, enabling them to avoid prohibitions, facilitating good deeds for them, and diverting them from transgressions. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, Allah bestows the worldly life upon those He loves and those He does not love, but He does not grant religion except to those He loves. So, whoever Allah grants religion to, He has loved him." The beloved servant may also be afflicted with calamities to atone for their sins and raise their ranks, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick of a thorn, but Allah expiates some of his sins by it." As for the disbeliever and the disobedient, they may be afflicted with calamities to take heed, return to Allah, and taste a small portion of worldly punishment.
