What are the conditions that must be met for a deed to be righteous?
Al-Shanqiti says that an action is not righteous unless it fulfills three conditions:
1. Its conformity to what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, brought: For every action that contradicts his Sunnah is void, as Allah Almighty says: (And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it) Al-Hashr/7. 2. The sincerity of the doer to Allah in his action: As Allah Almighty says: (And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, dedicating their religion to Him sincerely) Al-Bayyinah/5. 3. Its foundation upon the basis of faith and correct creed: For faith is the basis of righteous action, as Allah Almighty says: (Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer) An-Nahl/97, and the actions of non-believers are scattered dust.
