Is it true that God does not think, and that His decree is without thought?

The names and attributes of Allah are tawqifiyyah (divinely ordained and restricted to what is revealed), so Allah can only be described by what He has described Himself with or what His Messenger has described Him with. "Al-Mufakkir" (The Thinker) or "Al-Tafakkur" (Thinking) are not among His names or attributes. Allah Almighty is described with knowledge; He is Al-Alim (The All-Knowing), aware of everything, and His knowledge is not obtained through recollection or contemplation like the knowledge of creatures. It is not permissible to attribute thinking to Allah, even for the purpose of informing, because it implies the exertion of intellect and contemplation, which are stages in seeking knowledge that are not befitting for Allah Almighty. His knowledge encompasses everything, and not even the weight of an atom escapes Him.
