Are the Names and Attributes of Allah mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah merely for the approximation of understanding, or does our knowledge of Allah extend beyond that?

One must believe in the names and attributes that Allah Almighty has affirmed for Himself, or that His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, has affirmed for Him, without distortion (taḥrīf), negation (taʿṭīl), anthropomorphism (takyīf), or resemblance (tamthīl). For Allah is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. Salvation is achieved by following what the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, were upon, for they believed in all names and attributes and did not interpret, distort, anthropomorphize, or liken. We do not comprehend the essence or modality of these attributes; we know their affirmation and meaning, but we are ignorant of their modality and true nature. As for the claim that these attributes are merely approximations for understanding or illusions with no reality, it is false and the doctrine of philosophers.
