The question

What is the significance of knowing and learning about Allah's attributive qualities (صفات خبرية) such as "the Face, the Eyes, the Hands, and the Leg," and His attributive actions (أفعال خبرية) such as "descending to the lowest heaven, coming, arriving, and laughing," and what is your opinion regarding someone who advises against occupying oneself with them or with the disagreements surrounding them?

The answer

The believer must generally believe that Allah has the Most Beautiful Names and the Most High Attributes. Then, he should specifically believe in whatever has been affirmed for Him from these, such as the two Hands, the Face, the two Eyes, descending, coming, and arriving. The People of the Sunnah have followed this approach, listing these attributes in books of creed along with their proofs, and have unanimously agreed upon affirming them as they are, without ta’wil (figurative interpretation), takyeef (speculating on how they are), or tamtheel (likening them to creation). The importance of knowing these attributes lies in it being the purpose of human creation, a confirmation of what is stated in the sacred texts, being among the most noble sciences, increasing faith, and through it, the path of the People of the Sunnah is known and distinguished from the path of the misguided.
