Is it permissible for a husband to compel his wife to inform his mother of her whereabouts when she goes out, or to compel her to eat with his family, or to compel her to receive people she cannot tolerate?

A husband is not obliged to compel his wife in matters unrelated to marriage and its

appurtenances. She is not required to obey him in such matters, especially if his

command harms her. He is not permitted to deal with her arbitrarily or humiliate her.

The wife should do what her husband commands her, as long as it does not cause her

hardship or violate Islamic law, in order to foster love and harmony.
