Is a wife obliged to obey her husband in what his mother commands her to do, knowing that he does not desire it, nor does she, and is a husband's refusal to visit his relatives due to his busy schedule considered disobedience, and is a wife entitled to refuse to go with her husband if there is mixing in the gathering?

The wife is not obligated to obey her husband's command to do things his mother asks that are ordinary matters she dislikes. However, she must obey him if he commands her concerning matters related to Islamic law. It is recommended to obey the husband's mother in matters that cause no harm, as part of good companionship. The son must respond to his parents' command to visit relatives, and if he cannot, he should explain his circumstances. He must maintain kinship ties by any means. The husband is not permitted to force his wife to attend gatherings where there is uncontrolled mixing (of genders) according to Islamic law, and she is not obligated to obey him in that. She should advise him and explain the harms of such mixing.
