Filial piety towards one's mother is among the noblest acts of devotion, and Allah has enjoined it in the Holy Quran. The of the Prophet has also given the mother three-quarters of this piety. The care of a needy mother is obligatory upon all her children, and it is not permissible to ignore her or place her in a nursing home to get rid of her, as this constitutes disobedience (ʿuqūq). The mother should be cared for in a place where she receives complete care, especially with advanced age and Alzheimer's disease, because leaving her alone in a care home may not be free from potential harms.
