Did I err in placing my mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's, in a specialized nursing home due to the lack of an alternative caregiver after my return to work abroad, knowing that my brother does not care for her and does not allow anyone to visit her, and that she was not comfortable with me during her stay with me either?

Filial piety towards one's mother is among the noblest acts of devotion, and Allah has enjoined it in the Holy Quran. The Sunnah of the Prophet has also given the mother three-quarters of this piety. The care of a needy mother is obligatory upon all her children, and it is not permissible to ignore her or place her in a nursing home to get rid of her, as this constitutes disobedience (ʿuqūq). The mother should be cared for in a place where she receives complete care, especially with advanced age and Alzheimer's disease, because leaving her alone in a care home may not be free from potential harms.
