Working in commercial marketing, whether conventional or electronic, is permissible as long as it is not for products forbidden by Islamic law. As for obtaining others' email addresses for marketing purposes, it is permissible if the providing website explicitly states its right to sell email lists, or if the email owner has publicly displayed their address, in which case it is permissible to contact them, provided an unsubscribe option is made available. It is forbidden to use email lists for which the website has not declared its right to sell, and it is also forbidden to use hacking programs to obtain addresses.
